膽固醇

膽固醇是一種蠟質狀的脂肪1。過多膽固醇會形成斑塊,積聚於血管內壁1。久而久之,積聚的脂肪斑塊會引致血管堵塞,阻礙血液流動至不同身體器官1。如血栓形成,阻斷心臟或腦部的血液供應,就可能引致心臟病發或中風 (Stroke)1。目前心臟病 (Diseases of Heart) 及腦血管疾病 (Cerebrovascular Diseases) 分別是本港第三及第四大殺手2

人體的膽固醇大部分由肝臟製造,但也有部分從食物攝取3。除了食品中的膳食膽固醇,飽和脂肪及反式脂肪也是高膽固醇的主因3
