Community Team

Pfizer Hong Kong established the “Pfizer Community Team” providing a platform to facilitate colleagues in participating and organizing volunteer work and community projects. Pfizer Community Team shows our care towards the disabled, the under-privileged and people in need in different ways, and we actively jointed hands with different organizations to organize programs to serve the community, including health education for elderly homes, drug abuse prevention campaigns for teens, employment training for single parents, hospital visits and environmental protection. Family members of the colleagues are also invited to participate in these community activities.

Reaching out with Caring Hands to the Community

As a member of the Hong Kong community, we are thriving to fulfill the needs of society and contribute to its overall health and wellness. We are reviewing and improving our efforts to lessen our impact on the environment, nurture a workplace of diversity and inclusion, conduct responsible business practices and uphold the highest ethical standards. By devoting our time, resources and expertise to those in needs, we fulfill our growing responsibility to helping people live healthier and more productive lives. Our goal is to improve the quality of life in the community where we live and work.

Since 2001, Pfizer Hong Kong is nominated as a Caring Company for ten consecutive years since its inception by Hong Kong Council of Social Service. We continue our mission to serve our community with partnership with different community organizations. At the same time, we actively reach out to our business partners to share the needs and benefits of serving the community with the aim to encourage more corporations to set up community teams.

Charitable Donation

Apart from health promotion and knowledge transfer, Pfizer is committed to helping the needy via employee’s donations and company’s matching fund. Employee’s donations are generated by the workplace “coffee fund” to aid the needy patients of catastrophes.

Providing patients with access to quality medicines is one of our key responsibilities as the world’s leading pharmaceutical company. We partnered with different charitable organizations and NGOs to provide affordable drugs to low-income patients.  Besides, we have drug donation programs that enable us to provide relief to low – income catastrophic diseases’ patients.

In addition, we offered immediate financial aid to the victims of global disasters. In 2008, Pfizer colleagues made contributions using the company’s matching fund to aid the victims of the Sichuan earthquake. In 2005, for tsunami relief, Pfizer Hong Kong colleagues donated money to aid in the tsunami relief efforts. During the SARS outbreak, Pfizer Hong Kong mobilized its international network and sourced approximately 500,000 N95 surgical masks and donated them to doctors, nurses, pharmacists and news reporters to prevent the contraction and spread of SARS. Additionally, the Pfizer Foundation donated money to support the Hong Kong Hospital Authority post-SARS cleaning hands campaign as part of the public health campaign to prevent further outbreaks of SARS.

Patient Centered

In this era of information and knowledge, the patient’s perspective is one of the most important aspects in the provision of quality healthcare. More and more healthcare professionals are working with their patients to achieve optimal health outcomes, driving a constructive evolution in the culture of healthcare across the world.

Serving the People who Matter the Most

Pfizer Hong Kong fully embraces the 5 principles of patient-centered healthcare that International Alliance of Patients’ Organizations is advocating, including:

  1. Respect
  2. Choice and empowerment
  3. Patient involvement in health policy
  4. Access and support
  5. Information

By maintaining a focus on quality, outcomes and enhancing access to appropriate, integrated care, we can empower patients and their families to participate actively and achieving more positive outcome.

Taking Action for Health

Committing to patient-centered healthcare also means encouraging healthy, proactive lifestyles to reduce preventable diseases. Pfizer Hong Kong regularly supports public health campaigns in addition to collaborating with health professionals in preventive and wellness promotion efforts. We advocate a participatory approach in disease management, working through alliances to provide support, education and resources for the patient community.

We believe partnership with healthcare professionals, patient groups, carers and government is essential to live the value of patient-centered healthcare towards a healthier tomorrow.

Global Health Fellow

The goal of the Global Health Fellow is to connect Pfizer colleagues with programs to improve health in the developing world. Pfizer colleagues commit to up to 6-month assignments working with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and multi-lateral organizations (MLOs) addressing HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and other devastating diseases in developing countries.

To live our community core value, our colleague visited Wuhan, China, to assist Project Hope in Wuhan in providing training to AIDS patients as well as doctors. As a Global Health Fellow, our colleague contributed own expertise and event organization skills to assist the organization’s fund-raising activities, and production of collateral and external communication campaign.

Environmental Care

Pfizer is highly committed to protecting and preserving the environment, and we understand an environmental protection is a key element of corporate social responsibility. We strive to make our society a better place to live and work and our commitment could be demonstrated through the “3R” concept:

Reduce – reduce wastes, paper, plastics and energy
Recycle – wastes are separated for recycling purposes
Reuse – creative ideas for re-use of materials are encouraged

The Pfizer green campaign has been launched to encourage colleagues to be more environmentally responsible. Colleagues are encouraged to create an environmentally friendly workplace, for example, through recycling paper and plastic bottles, saving energy and sharing eco-friendly tips. Natural preservation activities like tree planting are organized as well.
