Treatment of acne vulgaris 1-3
 
Clinical Evidence top
Clindamycin has been shown to:
  • Have in vitro activity against all isolates of Propionibacterium acnes1,2
  • Provide significant reduction in skin surface and follicular Propionbacterium spp and Micrococcaceae in mild to moderate acne vulgaris4
  • Be effective in papulopustular acne grade I-II, particularly with marked inflammation5
  • Be as effective as the topical antibiotics tetracycline and erythromycin5

VERY COMMON and COMMON ADVERSE EVENTS: Skin dryness, abdominal pain, skin irritation, gastrointestinal disturbances, contact dermatitis, stinging in the eyes, Gram-negative folliculitis or skin oiliness1-3

INTERACTIONS: Clindamycin has been shown to have neuromuscular blocking properties that may enhance the action of other neuromuscular blocking agents.2


Dosages top
Apply a thin film to affected area of clean and dry skin twice daily.1-3

Important Safety Information1 top
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Hypersensitivity to clindamycin or lincomycin, a history of regional enteritis, ulcerative colitis or antibiotic-related colitis1-3

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS: When applied topically, the physician should be alert to the remote possibility of an antibiotic induced severe diarrhea. Significant diarrhea (which theoretically may occur up to several weeks post-therapy) should be managed as if antibiotic-associated. Do not apply to eyes, mucosa, or to open skin lesions or skin conditions affecting the site of application. Alcohol base may cause burning and irritation of the eyes. For dry or sensitive skin, it is better to use the topical lotion rather than the topical solution. Concomitant use of Dalacin T® with other available acne preparations (eg, benzoyl peroxide and retinoic acid) must be done with caution. 1-3
